A complete reference guide for Reddox. Learn how to install, configure, and use every feature of the AI contract review assistant for Microsoft Word.
Getting Started
Installation
Install Reddox from the Microsoft Office Add-in Store. In Word, click Insert > Get Add-ins and search for "Reddox." Once installed, the Reddox task pane appears on the right side of your Word window. You can also pin the Reddox icon to your ribbon for one-click access.
Running Your First Review
Open any .docx contract in Word and click the Reddox icon in your ribbon. The task pane will open. Type a prompt like "Review this contract and flag risks" or click one of the quick action buttons (e.g., "Full Review," "Flag Missing Clauses"). Reddox reads the document, analyzes it, and produces tracked changes and comments directly in Word.
System Requirements
- Microsoft Word (desktop app, Windows or Mac)
- Microsoft 365 subscription
- Active internet connection
Core Features
AI Redlining
Reddox produces native Word tracked changes, not overlays or annotations. Every insertion, deletion, and replacement appears in the standard revision pane so you can accept or reject edits individually or in bulk.
Each edit includes a confidence rating:
The word-level diff engine ensures precise edits. If Reddox replaces "30 days" with "10 business days," you will see exactly those words changed, not the entire paragraph rewritten.
Playbooks
Playbooks are reusable review instructions that tell Reddox what to look for and how to respond. Built-in playbooks include:
- Review as Landlord
- Review as Tenant
- Review as Lender
- Check Indemnification Clauses
- Flag Missing Clauses
You can create custom playbooks in plain English. Describe your firm's standards, preferred clause language, or risk tolerances and save the playbook to your account. Every team member can then run the same review.
Reference Doc Library
Upload your gold-standard templates via drag-and-drop. Reddox automatically extracts and indexes every clause. When you review an incoming contract, Reddox compares it clause-by-clause against your reference document and assigns each clause a status:
Deviations are automatically redlined to bring the incoming contract in line with your preferred language.
Defined Term Checker
Click the defined term checker to extract every defined term from the document. Reddox identifies four error types:
- Inconsistent casing — "Landlord" vs. "landlord"
- Unused definitions — defined but never referenced
- Undefined usage — used with initial caps but never defined
- Conflicting definitions — defined differently in multiple places
Click any result to navigate directly to that location in the document.
Deal Context
Upload related transaction documents such as MSAs, SOWs, amendments, and side letters. When Reddox reviews the current document, it does so with full awareness of the entire deal. This enables cross-document consistency checking: conflicting governing law clauses, mismatched defined terms, and inconsistent termination provisions are all flagged.
Clause Comparison View
A side-by-side panel that shows the reference clause on the left and the incoming clause on the right. Each pair receives a status badge (Match, Deviation, or Missing). Deviations include an auto-generated redline showing the exact differences between the two versions.

Advanced Features
Multi-Turn Tool Loops
For complex tasks, Reddox operates in a read-think-act loop. The AI reads a section of the document, decides what to do, executes one or more tool calls (e.g., inserting tracked changes and adding a comment), then reads the updated document to verify its work. This loop continues until the task is complete, enabling multi-step edits that build on each other.
Template Generation
Reddox can scan a reviewed contract for variable fields such as dates, amounts, party names, and addresses, then convert them into Word content controls. The result is a reusable, fillable template that preserves all of your preferred clause language.
Document Type Auto-Detection
When you open a contract, Reddox automatically identifies the document type: NDA, MSA, lease, employment agreement, loan agreement, and more. Based on the detected type, Reddox suggests relevant playbooks so you can start a tailored review with one click.
Confidence Scoring
Every edit Reddox produces is assigned a confidence level:
- Critical — high-risk issues that should almost always be addressed (e.g., unlimited liability, missing governing law)
- Recommended — standard improvements that align with market norms
- Optional — minor refinements or stylistic preferences
Use confidence ratings to triage large redlines quickly. Focus on critical edits first, then work through recommended and optional changes as time allows.
Export Review Reports
Generate an HTML report summarizing every edit, comment, and finding from a review session. Reports include metadata tagging for easy filtering and can be shared with clients or colleagues who do not have the Reddox add-in installed.
Themes
Reddox includes 6 professional themes to customize the look of the task pane. Switch themes at any time from the settings menu.
To switch themes, open the Reddox task pane, click the settings icon, and select your preferred theme.

Troubleshooting
Add-in not appearing
If the Reddox add-in does not appear in your ribbon after installation, try these steps:
- Close and reopen Word.
- Go to Insert > Get Add-ins > My Add-ins and verify Reddox is listed.
- If it is not listed, reinstall from the Add-in Store.
- Ensure your Office version supports add-ins (Microsoft 365 or Office 2019+).
Tracked changes not showing
Reddox produces native tracked changes, but they will only be visible if Track Changes display is enabled in Word. Go to the Review tab and set the display mode to All Markup. If Track Changes is turned off, the edits are still present but will appear as if they were already accepted.
Slow responses
If reviews are taking longer than expected:
- Check your internet connection.
- Large documents (100+ pages) take longer to process. Consider reviewing in sections.
- If the issue persists, check the Reddox status page for service updates.
Contact Support
If none of the above steps resolve your issue, contact us at support@reddox.ai. We respond within one business day. Please include your Word version, operating system, and a description of the issue.
